The ‘Elfstedentocht’... will it happen this year?
07/02/2012| That’s the question many Dutch people wonder (and dream) about. One thing we will be sure of is that the tour will be timed with MYLAPS ProChips! The Dutch ‘Elfstedentocht’ is world’s largest and longest ice skating tour on natural ice. In 1997 this prestigious race on frozen canals, rivers and lakes between the eleven historic Frisian cities was held for the last time. With the freezing temperatures of last week the chance that all the canals will be frozen thick enough to support the 16.000 skaters for nearly 200 km, is getting closer. The MYLAPS ProChip timing system will be installed at all checkpoints to provide live timing. This system is also used during national and international championships, and is available on all Dutch ice skating rinks for practice purposes. |

| A minimum of 15 centimetres of ice throughout the track is needed. The cold spell in late January and early February 2012 has heightened the expectation of a 2012 Elfstedentocht. Decisions to go ahead with the tour are made at the last minute, a definite date can't be given, but we are ready! |
