Our Italian partner Evodata recently used MYLAPS BibTag technology to time the 2023 Venice Marathon. The event in one of the most beautiful cities in the world had nearly 13,000 participants in the marathon, half-marathon, and 10km race, and the BibTag system accurately captured every second of the races.
The 2023 Venice Marathon
The World Athletics bronze-level accredited race included a split point every 5km, with an additional timeline at the half marathon point. The exciting finish saw two athletes race to break the event record with Mutai Solomon (UGA) coming out on top, finishing with a course record of 2:07:41.
The iconic race saw participants run amongst the landmarks of Venice from the start, right in front of Villa Pisani, rolling onto Riviera del Brenta and its villas, and of course the Ponte di Barche, Piazza San Marco with its Bell Tower and Palazzo Ducale. The mass event attracted 4403 runners (finishers) for the full distance event, 2745 for the half marathon, and 5700 for the 10km.
MYLAPS BibTag technology
Founded in 1982, MYLAPS is the inventor of automatic sports timing and develops technology that is used all over the world, from the Olympics, major marathons, and NASCAR to countless local races. To offer state-of-the-art timing services, Evodata uses MYLAPS BibTag technology for mass running events such as the Venice, Rome, and Milan marathons. BibTag is the standard timing system for mass events with affordable chips and the highest read-rates in the industry. This timing system was used earlier this month at the Chicago Marathon, where Kenyan Kelvin Kiptum broke the world record. The MYLAPS ThinTag is 75% thinner than regular tags, which results in less waste and less shipment space, which has a positive impact on lower carbon emissions.
