The B.A.A. selected MYLAPS Sports Timing for the second consecutive year to develop the app to serve the needs of family, friends, and general spectators looking to track all participants. Fans in 124 countries downloaded the app to cheer on their favorites.
Participants and spectators could follow all 26,637 participants live during this iconic event that is held every year on Patriots’ Day, the third Monday of April. The Live Tracking functionality was the most used feature in the app, which allowed spectators, friends and family to track real-time progress of athletes during the historic course from Hopkinton to Boston on a map. The app contained all vital event information for runners, spectators, and volunteers.
Average session duration of 30:38 minutes & 4.4 rating
Compared to last year, this year’s app attracted almost 50% more users. On race day the average session duration of the users was 30 minutes, 38 seconds. The app was opened 856,900 times and users watched 18 screens per session on average, resulting in a dazzling total of 15.4 million screen views, according to MYLAPS data. The app was rated a 4.4 (out of 5) in the App Store and on Google Play.
Reliable live data
All technical innovations start with accurate and reliable live data. All participants wore bibs with MYLAPS ThinTag technology, a lightweight RFID solution that meets the IAAF timing standard. All timing data from start to finish and all 12 split points was processed to the app.
