This global milestone in mass participation timing formed the foundation of the innovative DNA at MYLAPS Sports Timing. For the upcoming edition of the BMW Berlin Marathon (September 29th), the German event still relies on the MYLAPS ChampionChip.
More than 60,000 participants of this world major marathon will be timed by mika:timing. Marathon world records were not officially recognized by the IAAF until January 1st, 2004. Since then all marathon men’s world records have been timed with the ChampionChip technology and by mika:timing. ‘The ChampionChip is an extremely reliable and sustainable solution as personal or rental chip’, says Harald Mika, CEO of mika:timing. ‘We’re excited to use this in Berlin, 25 years after its birthdate.’
Nijmegen, The Netherlands: birthplace of ChampionChip
The company ChampionChip was founded in 1993 in Nijmegen, in the eastern part of The Netherlands. The organizers of the local race in Nijmegen, The Zevenheuvelenloop (Seven Hills Run), developed the ChampionChip timing system in order to create fast and accurate results and offer all participants not only finish times, but also individual start and split times. From a small running event, the Zevenheuvelenloop emerged to one of the most popular annual races in The Netherlands with over 25,000 participants.
At the European Running Business Conference earlier this month the race was crowned to European Race of the Year. For the 2019 edition the Zevenheuvelenloop will be timed with the MYLAPS BibTag System with split points after each km. Next to that the event uses the MYLAPS EventApp combined with live photos in the app, offering participants and spectators the new standard in race experience.
Iconic yellow chip opened the door for a new world of possibilities

Now, 25 years later, we still strive to offer automated and reliable solutions to capture the results and turn these data into insights, progress and fun. We are convinced that, together with our timing partners, these solutions help in creating the ultimate sports experience for athletes, fans and events.’
