40 years of innovation
40 years of MYLAPS, 40 years of innovating sports timing. 2022 marks 40 years since the foundation of our company. Get to know more about our technical innovations over these past years during this trip down our timeline.
A brief timeline
It all started with RC cars
The year is 1982. A couple of Dutch guys figured that there had to be a way to measure timing on their RC cars. Not long after they started pioneering the automatic timing system for RC cars, they founded AMB i.t in Haarlem, the Netherlands. Little did they know it would lead to 40 years of adventure & innovation, resulting in becoming a world leader in sports timing. Back then, the system was a world’s first.

A similar story started in 1993. That year Dutch company ChampionChip was founded in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Just like AMB i.t., ChampionChip focused on innovating sports timing solutions. Whereas AMB’s heritage originated in RC car racing, ChampionChip started with big mass sports like marathons and biking. And yes, those drawings there, are early ChampionChip sketches.
The website you’re currently visiting looked completely different 19 years ago. Mylaps.com was the first platform for transponder users to view results of their races and practice sessions. This was a world’s first and became a fast-growing platform. In 2008, the MYLAPS name developed into more than just a results webpage. That year ChampionChip and AMB i.t. merged into the new brand MYLAPS Sports Timing. A logical step for the two pioneering Dutch companies, who evolved into world leaders of the industry.
