All 38,336 participants could be tracked live along the course, together with personal pictures that were published directly after passing the special 15KM Telcel split. This resulted in a stunning number of 62,465 app downloads in 58 different countries.
The 36th edition of the Maraton CdMx Telcel used the MYLAPS EventApp and PhotoVideo to enhance the race experience for participants, fans and followers. The app users had an average session duration of 14:01 minutes and spent most of the time with tracking the progress of their favorite runners and their live action photos. The app plays a vital role in the communication strategy of the running event: it contains all relevant information for participants and followers and has features like course maps and selfies with customizable layers to optimize the sponsor visibility.
Personal photos and video to share with friends
Next to the live photos during the race, after the race all participants could see their free personal video in the app and on a website. The footage can be easily downloaded or shared with friends on social media. Compared to last year’s race the number of app downloads was doubled and the average session duration grew with more than 25%.
‘Very happy with the performance of the app’
The Mexican timing company Márcate was in charge of the event and made all the technology innovations possible. ‘We are very happy with the performance we had with the app’, says Javier Carvallo Chinchilla, Race Director of the Maraton CdMx Telcel. ‘Our viewers were able to follow the runners live with LiveTracking. In addition, having a live photo and a video is an important innovation in the world of running that opens the way to improve and boost the sports industry.’
